Patreon Creator Fees Explained
Patreon is a membership platform that allows creators to earn recurring revenue from their fans. Their fee structure includes platform fees, payment processing fees, and payout fees.
Platform Fee
As of August 4, 2025, new creators pay a standard 10% platform fee on all earnings. Creators who published their page before this date may have access to legacy pricing with an 8% platform fee.
Payment Processing Fees (USD)
Processing fees vary based on the payment amount:
- $3 or less: 5% + $0.10 per transaction
- Over $3: 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction
Currency Conversion Fee
If a patron pays in a currency different from your payout currency, Patreon charges a 2.5% currency conversion fee.
Payout Fees
When you transfer your earnings to your bank or PayPal, additional fees apply:
- PayPal (US): 1% of the transfer (min $0.25, max $20)
- Payoneer: 1% of the transfer (min $0.50, max $20)
- Direct Deposit/Bank Transfer: $0.25 per payout
Example Calculation
For a $10/month patron on the standard plan:
- Platform fee (10%): $1.00
- Processing fee (2.9% + $0.30): $0.59
- You receive: ~$8.41 per patron before payout fees
Tips to Maximize Earnings
- Higher tier pricing: The fixed processing fee ($0.30) has less impact on higher-priced tiers.
- Annual memberships: Offering annual plans reduces per-transaction processing fees.
- Bank transfer payouts: Using direct deposit ($0.25 flat) is often cheaper than PayPal for larger payouts.
